Mandy Herlich joined Temple Beth-El in July 2015 bringing in-depth experience as a Jewish educator to her role as Director of Lifelong Learning .   Most recently, Mandy was employed at the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education in Miami, managing the Diller Teen Fellows program. Diller Teen Fellows is a prestigious leadership and Israel experience program for Jewish tenth and eleventh graders in North America, Israel, and South Africa.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Mandy was raised with a deep love for Israel, Reform Judaism, and the Jewish people.  Mandy did her undergraduate work at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Jewish Studies. Cum Laude degree in hand she then moved to Jackson, Mississippi where she worked as an Education Fellow for the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life.

Following that, Mandy taught 6th grade Judaic studies at The Davis Academy- a Reform day school in Atlanta, Georgia. Next stop – Jerusalem for her first year in the education program at Hebrew Union College. Mandy reflects on her role at Temple Beth-El:

“I believe that Jewish education must be relevant and learner-centered,” Mandy said. “As an educator, I enjoy getting to know my learners and putting their interests and passions at the center of their classroom experiences.  I empower students of all ages to construct their own paths to education in a way that inspires them.”

As a student and a teacher, Mandy always feels the most inspired by the gathering of knowledge that happens outside of the classroom.  “I look forward to finding fun and creative ways to bring experiential education into the Temple Beth-El classrooms and beyond,” she added.
